Who You Say I Am

Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. ~ John 8:34-36 I’ll admit, I’m a fan of the movies featuring a person or a team overcoming adversity, beating the odds, and winning the medal or the title. Remember the Titans, Blindside, even The Mighty Ducks. Great movies in my opinion. Today I have a very specific scene from Miracle on my mind. If you know the movie, you know that one of the coach’s biggest challenges was taking college aged hockey players from rival schools with old scores to settle and get them to work toge

Be Thou My Vision

“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.” ~ Matthew 5:14 One of the things I remember about my grandmother is that we were always concerned with her eyesight. She had cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration on top of having worn glasses for the majority of her life. She loved to sew and crochet, both hobbies which require one to be able to see, and reading. If you don’t know the story from the movie, you might know the story from author Elisabeth Elliot who’s husband was killed alongside Nate Saint. Personally, I know the story best because my grandparent’s were friends with Frank Drown, the missionary who led the expedition into the jungle to recover the bodies of the men who were killed. The movie is a story of living faith in an incredibly difficult, hostile envir

Holy, Holy, Holy

"May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all." ~2 Corinthians 13:14 One of the unique things about this week’s hymn is how well it’s melody, 4 part harmonies, and words have stood the test of time as it has been embraced by so many Christian traditions in the nearly 200 years since it was first penned. Because of this, I can’t help but love the accapella arrangement below. I don’t know about you, but I love those random moments and surprises where God reminds me that He has a plan. When I started this series, I simply wrote down a list of songs to work by way through in the coming weeks and summer months. Holy, Holy,
